1. Fostering 'commitment' to learning or 'deep consideration':
How?: challenge assumptions, provide diverse perspectives, child centred learning, create dissatisfaction with current views,
provide experiences, 'wonderment and awe', never one ultimate answer, question own beliefs and values,
question - 'What makes you think that', draw attention to anomollies and contradictions.
2. 'An essential aspect of metacognition is that learners control their own thinking.
To exercise that control the learner must be independent of the teacher to a substantial degree.' (White, p158).
When is a learner independent of the teacher?
When a student directs his own learning, when students are self-motivated to know what to do next, when students problem solve
independently, when students can transfer prior knowledge into a new situation, when their thinking changes because of something they have discovered, Discovery Time, collaborative group work, inquiry / experimentation / observation (independently or in groups) etc

3. What links are their between White's conceptualisation of 'deep learning' and our 'revised' curriculum?
